NEW LONDON, NH — The six Kearsarge Regional High School students who participated in a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) program sponsored by New London Hospital (NLH) and LNA Health Careers successfully passed the LNA exam. They received their certificates and pins during a special ceremony at Kearsarge Regional High School on January 4.
The program, instructed by staff at LNA Health Careers, provides high school students the opportunity to start a career in healthcare. New London Hospital, a member of Dartmouth Health, generously funded the tuition and provided the clinical site for the Kearsarge High School LNA class.
After completing their necessary classroom course work in September, the six Kearsarge Regional High School students were trained at NLH every Tuesday and Thursday. Now that they have earned their LNA certification, they will receive job placement support through the program.
“This program is designed to foster a culture of learning and mentorship,” says Nicole Wakeman, NLH Clinical Manager of Inpatient Services. “The students definitely arrive with some nerves in the beginning, as they have to adapt to being in the close proximity to the patients in need of their assistance, but it is our role to guide them, develop their skills, and while to see them gain confidence is rewarding for us, it is especially for them.”
