The Wellness Connection is guided by staff from New London Hospital (NLH) and the Wellness Connection Coalition. In an effort to create a sustainable initiative that will meet the needs of our community, NLH engaged local partners in a strategic planning process beginning in 2013.
The Wellness Connection is focused on increasing the health of community members who reside in the Lake Sunapee Region. For the purpose of this initiative, the Lake Sunapee Region is defined as all towns in the Kearsarge and Newport School Districts as well as those served by New London Hospital: Andover, Bradford, Croydon, Danbury, Goshen, Grantham, Lempster, Newbury, New London, Newport, Springfield, Sunapee, Sutton, Warner, Washington, and Wilmot.
We’ve all heard the health messages: eat more vegetables, walk or bike instead of drive, aim to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day. At this point, most of us already know what we should do to be healthy. Unfortunately, actually making those changes isn’t always easy. Our busy schedules, the environments where we live and work, lack of time and support – all of these things can be significant barriers to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The Wellness Connection wants to change that. By bringing people together, we believe that we can create environments where we live, work and play that make the healthy choices easy for all individuals.
By 2017, The Wellness Connection will have developed and implemented targeted interventions and strategies capable of achieving measurable goals to improve the health and well-being of the people who live in Lake Sunapee Region communities.
To provide the Lake Sunapee Region communities with a sustainable and collaborative long-term plan for measurably improving health and wellness.
Increase public awareness of, knowledge about, and participation in healthy behaviors through wellness initiatives that improve health outcomes.
Increase effectiveness of regional employer wellness programs by creating a network of local businesses who work together to maximize expertise and resources toward their shared goal of developing a healthy workforce.
Increase, align, and enhance efforts of organizations, community leaders, and individuals living in the Lake Sunapee Region who are working to improve healthy eating and active living behaviors.
We are initially focused on creating and supporting multi-sector interventions that will increase healthy eating and active living. There are many organizations and individuals within the region who are working toward this goal on their own. Our hope is that by bringing these local resources together, we can create a collective impact strategy that will change the entire culture of the region.
