Application Process

Fill out and submit the appropriate online application form to Volunteer Services.
After reviewing your application, we will contact you to schedule an interview. During this meeting we will tour the New London or Newport facility together, review the tasks for which you might be interested in volunteering, and schedule a Volunteer Orientation.
If both parties agree to move forward, we will ask you to:

  • Review volunteer service descriptions and determine an area of interest.
  • Provide your immunization record.
  • If you have not had a recent TB test, and your volunteer task requires patient contact, schedule a time for you to meet with our Health Nurse for that purpose.
  • Complete information form for a Bureau of Adult and Elderly Services background check.
  • Acquire a smock or vest which is required to be worn when volunteering.
  • Have a photo taken for your Volunteer ID badge.
  • Work with Volunteer Services to determine any additional follow-up steps. This may include an interview with a member of the department where you may become a volunteer.

NOTE: Your volunteer training will depend on where you are placed. Some departments require new volunteers to “shadow” a seasoned volunteer in order to learn necessary skills.
