Primary Care

The primary care provider (PCP) is a central figure in your overall medical care, with specialties in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. All PCPs are trained and experienced in making an initial diagnosis. Maintaining a comfortable, ongoing relationship with a primary care provider who knows you and your health needs is important for your overall care.

Whether your concern is a regular check-up, an acute problem, or routine follow-up for a chronic condition, it is your PCP who will first evaluate, treat or refer you for testing or specialty care. Under all HMOs and managed care plans, you must see or consult your primary care provider first, unless you are having a medical emergency.

New London Hospital's staff of primary care providers is conveniently located in New London and Newport, with full supporting laboratory, diagnostic imaging and physical therapy services in the New London and Newport locations.
