Karen Zurheide, New London Hospital's (NLH) vice president of community relations and development has been honored as the 2013 Community Member of the Year for outstanding service and commitment to the community. The award was presented by the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce (LSRCC) at their annual member meeting on January 13.
The LSRCC established the Community Member of the Year Award in 2011 to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to encourage and promote commerce that enhances the quality of life in the Lake Sunapee Region. Zurheide has been involved with numerous community organizations offering her support and expertise. Currently she serves on the Kearsarge Lake Sunapee Community Food Pantry Board of Directors, the Program Advisory Committee for the Sugar River Valley Technical Center and the LSRCC Board of Directors. She also volunteers her time as a grant writer for the Kearsarge Chorale and other nonprofits. Until recently, Zurheide was the business membership coordinator for the Lake Sunapee Protective Association.
A long-time resident of New London, Zurheide joined NLH in July of 2013. Prior, she was the regional president for Ledyard National Bank and before that served as the executive director of The Fells in Newbury, NH.
