Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What is Express Care and how is it different from going to the emergency room or regional urgent care centers?

Express Care is an emergency room type B, which is different than a walk-in, non-emergent clinic or urgent care. This allows us to provide a higher level of care, including the ability to transition patients to our emergency department if necessary.

Question: What are some of the benefits of using Express Care?

One of the greatest benefits is that the medical record of your visit is integrated with your New London Hospital or Dartmouth Health providers in primary or pediatric care. This allows for a seamless transition of care if follow-up care is required. Express Care is staffed seven days a week with the exception of a few holidays.

Question: What should patients know about the billing process that will help clarify any confusion they might have regarding their bills?

Much of this depends on your insurance. In most cases, our charges fall below that one would incur if they went to our emergency department and fall in line with the charges you would receive at an urgent care center, however, some insurance plans may require you to pay a ER level copayment and coinsurance. Then some of the payments required are contingent on a patient’s deductible at the time of the visit. We are a type B emergency room, not an urgent care center. If patients have questions about their bills they can contact 1-844-808-0730.

Question: Can you share some of the feedback you have received from community members who have used Express Care?

“I was impressed from beginning to end with the care & personal attention I received from everyone.”

“Good experience. The staff is kind and friendly.”

“Should be a sign at the hospital entrance showing that you should go straight and not turn in to parking there.”

“We are very lucky to have Express Care in our community. The hours are excellent.”
